Nurse Practitioners

We have one nurse practitioner who works primarily at our West Street surgery and deals with minor illness. Nurses are taking on an increasing clinical role and have taken over some of the diagnostic roles doctors traditionally do.

Our nurse practitioner will see patients with minor illness complaints (sore throats, colds, cystitis, burns, stings and so on). If a prescription is required, the nurse practitioner will discuss this with the doctor. Similarly she will discuss it with the doctor if there are any uncertainties in the diagnosis.

Specially trained nurses work at the surgery and there is always one available during the day for help and advice. Their duties include assisting with minor operations, blood tests, routine wound dressings, ear wash outs, as well as specialised clinics.
