A Notice For Our Patients

Medina Healthcare has been informed that our West Street surgery building is soon to be put up for sale following the expiry of its lease.  It is with regret that we have to announce the imminent permanent closure of this branch.

As you know, we initially closed West Street temporarily at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, as this building was not suitable to meet the new, rigorous infection control requirements imposed upon us, which made it unsuitable for direct patient care. We also needed to allow all our administrative staff to work safely in a socially distanced environment.

We have experienced increasing significant issues with the building, which have not been unexpected given its age.  The problems were not easy to remedy for us or our landlords and we have been working with the local NHS teams since 2006 at developing an alternative site for Medina Healthcare in the Newport area.  A number of attempts have unfortunately proved unsuccessful.  With little scope for suitable, alternative clinical space in the Newport area, we have decided to consolidate our practice at our purpose built Wootton Bridge premises.  This site also links into services provided by our  North East Primary Care Network partners, who currently enrich what we offer to patients by providing: Musculoskeletal practitioners, Wellbeing coaches, Social prescribers & Mental Health practitioners, amongst other benefits.  We have approached the clinical commissioning group and our Wootton landlords with a request to expand the Wootton site in the future to accommodate all of our patient care and staff on one site.

We welcome all patients of Medina Healthcare to continue to access our services at the Wootton Surgery or via remote and digital access.

Thank-you for your understanding.

Diabetic Eye Screening: Important Notice about Diabetic Eye Screening

The National Diabetic Eye Screening Team have recently issued guidance to restart screening for all in a phased approach. Our restoration plan has been agreed with the local NHS England and NHS Improvement Commissioners and we are very please and eager to start screening once again.

We will invite people to screening appointments in the following order:

Invite over next few weeks and months

Those who are pregnant, under digital surveillance, newly diagnosed, had background retinopathy at last appointment (R1M0) or Did Not Attend their last appointment.

Next Year

Those who at their last appointment had no retinopathy or maculopathy (R0M0) are at a much lower risk of developing diabetic retinopathy.

Should you notice any severe changes to your sight in the meantime, please telephone your local hospital Eye Department or A&E.

The Bookings team will be in touch to rearrange all other appointments once screening resumes.

Thank You For Your Patience

Our online service for booking appointments and re-ordering prescriptions using our new clinical system is now operation.

You will need to come into the surgery with two forms of ID, one photographic and either a utility bill, or bank statement or telephone bill showing your current address.

Photocopies of your ID documents will be taken and returned and you will need to provide us with your email address and telephone number.

We will endeavour to register you while you wait, but due to the large number of patients we had registered on our previous clinical system this may not be possible, and you will be given a time to come back and collect your registration letter which contains your unique details of how to register with our new system.

It is the responsibility of the parents registering their children for these services to advise them you will have access to their medical records until they reach the age of 16
